Hochkar

Hochkar is an alpine summit in Styria rising to 1808 meters, offering wide views across several Austrian mountain ranges. A platform at the top allows visitors to take in the surrounding peaks and valleys from different angles.

The area was originally a traditional alpine farming region until a chairlift system was installed in modern times to open it as a recreational destination. This development transformed the mountain from a purely pastoral landscape into a modern tourist attraction.

The mountain is home to summer alpine pasture farming, where herders bring their cattle to the high meadows to graze. This practice shapes how the landscape looks and how people use the land throughout the warmer months.

Access is via a four-seater chairlift followed by a short walk to the summit. Visitors should prepare for high altitude and changing weather conditions, especially during shoulder seasons.

The summit has a 360-degree viewing platform where visitors can see the entire landscape from the highest point of the Göstling Alps. This position makes it an exceptional place to grasp the extent of the regional mountain ranges at a glance.
