Grabenkirche, Parish church and former monastery in Geidorf district, Graz, Austria
The Grabenkirche is a parish church with baroque architecture located in the Geidorf district. The building features a high altar depicting John the Baptist flanked by Saints Peter and Paul, along with several side altars containing religious artworks.
The church was built on the site of a former monastery that included the adjacent Antoniuskirche, dissolved in 1786. Josephinian reforms transformed it into a parish church under the leadership of Ludwig Jakomini.
The interior displays collected artworks from various churches, including Hans Adam Weissenkircher's painting 'The Annunciation to Mary' installed on the side wall in 1996. These works make the space a place where the city's artistic history comes together.
Regular masses are held at the church, which underwent renovations in 2007. These improvements made the parish facilities accessible for visitors with mobility needs.
The tabernacle is decorated with intricate vine carvings and comes from the demolished Georgskirche in Murvorstadt. This preserves an important piece of the city's local religious heritage.
