Filialkirche St. Radegund am heiligen Wasser, Gallmannsegg, Protected church in Kainach bei Voitsberg, Austria
Filialkirche St. Radegund am heiligen Wasser is a protected church building in Gallmannsegg featuring a distinctive tower. Inside, a statue of Saint Radegund sits prominently on the high altar.
A farmer's discovery of a statue of Saint Radegund in a tree in 1659 inspired construction of the current church building. The structure was consecrated in 1669 and soon became a destination for pilgrims.
The church drew pilgrims from nearby villages who came seeking help with sickness and animal health concerns. Visitors left votive offerings throughout the church as signs of their devotion.
The church sits in a rural setting and can be accessed, but it opens only on certain occasions throughout the year. Since services happen just a few times yearly, it is wise to check locally about access times before visiting.
Next to the church stands the Bründlkapelle, a small chapel surrounding a spring with a stone representation of the Throne of Grace from which water flows. This sacred water was what drew pilgrims to the site.
