The quarry features exposed rock faces, steep walls, and multiple mining sections where high-quality limestone is extracted for cement production.

The quarry operations started in 1909 when Ehrenhauser Portlandzement GmbH established the site, which was later acquired by Perlmooser Zementwerke in 1910.

The facility organizes an annual fossil hunting day where visitors can search for ancient marine life remains within the Leithakalk sedimentary rocks.

The quarry processes approximately 800,000 tons of limestone annually and maintains a railway connection to transport materials to the cement plant.

The site contains fossils and minerals including calcite and pyrite-marcasite within sedimentary rocks formed 16 to 13 million years ago in the Paratethys Sea.
