Parish and pilgrimage church Maria Ellend, Pilgrimage church in Haslau-Maria Ellend, Austria.
The Parish and pilgrimage church Maria Ellend is located on Wienerstraße in Haslau-Maria Ellend and features a distinctive facade with a Mother of God mosaic in its portal. The building dates from the late 18th century and is surrounded by a wooded park of about 4 hectares where multiple chapels and shrines are scattered throughout.
An earlier chapel has stood on this site since 1466, but it was later replaced by the current church building. Construction of the present structure took place under the direction of Franz Josef Gabriel of Abensperg and Traun between 1770 and 1772.
The grounds feature several devotional stations including the Stations of the Cross and a Lourdes Grotto, offering visitors different paths for quiet contemplation. These sites are scattered through the wooded landscape and invite meditative walks.
The grounds are easy to reach on foot and feature multiple paths winding through the wooded park. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as the various stations are spread across slopes and shaded trails.
Since 1929 the grounds have housed a community of the Holy Family missionaries, which maintains its only Austrian branch here. The community operates a small exhibition about their worldwide missionary work and history.
