Burgruine Weyer, Medieval tower ruins in Bramberg am Wildkogel, Austria
Weyerturm is a medieval tower ruin located in Bramberg am Wildkogel, standing as a substantial stone structure in the valley landscape. The site includes the main tower alongside foundation walls of a former residential building that once extended from it.
First documented around 1130, this tower served as a defensive structure guarding the Habachtal valley entrance. Over centuries it remained a strategic point controlling passage through the region.
The structure belonged to the Bishopric of Chiemsee from 1270 and required tenants to maintain accommodation for visiting bishops throughout its active period.
The ruins lie in a mountainous setting and are accessible to hikers willing to undertake the valley ascent. The location requires proper footwear and sufficient time to traverse the terrain.
Near the tower once stood a manor house that sheltered important artworks during World War II for safekeeping. This wartime role as temporary storage for treasures is rarely remembered by modern visitors.
