St. Nikolai Orthodox Church, Eastern Orthodox church building in Lahojsk, Belarus.
St. Nikolai Orthodox Church is a stone building with a rectangular layout, an open dome, and a bell tower that can hold around 700 people for services. Inside, it contains two chapels, one of which is dedicated to St. Symeon the New Theologian.
The church was built in 1866 on the site of an earlier church from 1653, continuing a long religious tradition at that location. After serving as a grain warehouse in the 1920s, it reopened for worship in 1941 and has remained in use since then.
The interior displays religious frescoes that depict scenes from Christian tradition and images of saints, creating a spiritual setting for those who come to worship or observe the Orthodox faith traditions. Visitors can see how faith is visually expressed through the painted walls and religious artworks.
The church is located on Soviet Street in central Lahojsk near the Gaina River, making it easily accessible on foot. Visitors should wear appropriate clothing for a place of worship and be respectful of any religious services taking place.
The church is home to an ancient icon of Mary that returned to the building in 1907 after being considered lost for many years. This rediscovery was a significant moment for the local community.
