Cologne Government Region, Government region in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.

The Cologne Government Region is an administrative territory in western North Rhine-Westphalia that spans eleven districts and independent cities. It encompasses major urban centers like Cologne, Bonn, and Leverkusen, which form the economic and cultural core of the Rhine-Ruhr area.

The territory was established in 1815 after the Napoleonic Wars as part of the Prussian Rhine Province. It was later integrated into the administrative structure of North Rhine-Westphalia, which was built up following the Second World War.

The region contains multiple academic institutions, including the University of Cologne, which was founded in 1388 and serves as a center of education.

The territory is well served by highways A1, A3, and A4, which connect the various cities throughout the region. This strong infrastructure makes it easy to travel between different parts of the territory.

Within the territory stands Cologne Cathedral, one of Europe's most striking buildings with its distinctive Gothic design. The cathedral was constructed over several centuries and continues to define the city's character today.
