Nibelungen Bridge

The Nibelungen Bridge consists of two sections spanning both arms of the Danube River, with a total length exceeding 375 meters at kilometer mark 2378.39.

Built in 2004 to replace a 1950 structure, this bridge represents the third iteration at this location after the original 1938 bridge was destroyed during World War II.

The bridge name references the Germanic Nibelung saga, connecting modern infrastructure with traditional German literature and mythology through urban architecture.

The bridge accommodates six lanes of traffic, including two dedicated bus and taxi lanes, forming part of highways B8 and B15 while serving 42,000 vehicles daily.

During construction in 2001, engineers moved the previous bridge laterally to maintain traffic flow while building the new structure in its intended position.
