Danish Jewish Museum, Jewish museum in Slotsholmen, Copenhagen, Denmark
The Danish Jewish Museum occupies the former Royal Boat House, featuring wooden interiors and brick vaults from the 16th century within a postmodern design.
The museum opened in June 2004 following extensive renovations of the Royal Boat House, which King Christian IV constructed in the seventeenth century.
The exhibition spaces present 400 years of Jewish life in Denmark through artifacts from the Royal Library Judaica collection and Copenhagen Jewish Community.
Visitors enter through the Royal Library Garden and can explore the reading room containing Danish materials about local Jewish history and traditions.
The interior design forms the Hebrew word Mitzvah through its corridors, reflecting the protection Danish citizens provided to Jews during World War II.
