Circle Bridge, Pedestrian bridge in Christianshavn, Denmark.
Circle Bridge is a pedestrian crossing over the Christianshavn Canal featuring five circular platforms linked by steel structures and cables. The 32-meter span stretches across the water with 118 metal cables that resemble masts rising from the platforms.
The bridge opened in 2015 as a gift from the Nordea Foundation to Copenhagen. It was built to complete a continuous walking route encircling the city's inner harbor.
The five round platforms invite people to pause and take in the surroundings, while the masts evoke the ships that once passed through these waters. This creates a direct connection between modern design and Copenhagen's seafaring past that visitors experience naturally as they cross.
The bridge serves daily users including cyclists, runners, and pedestrians and connects two waterfront areas. Access is open to everyone and no special preparation is needed to cross.
The railings use Brazilian guariuba wood installed with reverse slopes for durability. The structure can open mechanically to allow boats and water traffic to pass through the canal.
