Christian IV's Brewhouse, Renaissance monument in Slotsholmen, Denmark.
Christian IV's Brewhouse is a brick building with thick walls and distinctive vaulted ceilings that sits on the island of Slotsholmen. Inside, it houses a large collection of statues and sculptures displayed across several rooms.
Construction began in 1608 under King Christian IV and it was first part of the city's fortification system rather than serving as a brewery. The structure had a military purpose before it took on a different role later.
The Lapidarium of Kings displays around 300 statues and sculptures from royal gardens and palaces across different periods of Danish history. Visitors can see stone monuments that once stood at important centers of power.
The entrance is on the island of Slotsholmen near the harbor and easily reachable from the old town. Plan at least two hours to walk through the collection comfortably and view the sculptures.
The collection includes the original equestrian statue of King Christian V that once dominated the central square of Kongens Nytorv. This famous monument was brought here to protect it from weather and wear.
