Naturama, Natural history museum in Svendborg, Denmark
Naturama is a natural history museum in Svendborg, Denmark. It displays a large collection of taxidermy animals from land, sea, and air, mainly from the Nordic and Arctic regions, and also hosts temporary exhibitions.
The museum was founded by Harald Thomsen and opened on 2 June 1935 as the Zoological Museum. In 2005 it moved into a new building and changed its name to Naturama.
The name Naturama combines "natur" and "drama", reflecting the museum's aim to present nature in a theatrical way. Visitors can see the original dioramas, which show stuffed animals in realistic settings, a style that was among the first in the country.
The museum is in central Svendborg, easy to reach on foot or by bus. Allow a couple of hours to see the main displays and any special exhibition.
The museum's collection includes the skeleton of a sei whale that stranded on Tåsinge in 1955. The whale was about 18 meters long and its skeleton is still on display.
