Gavnø Castle

Gavnø is a Baroque castle in southern Denmark featuring eight restored rooms with elaborate stucco ceilings, antique furnishings, and ornamental wall treatments. The interior spaces combine Nordic architectural traditions with Baroque and Rococo decorative elements.

The castle originally served as a convent for aristocratic women and was transformed into a Rococo residence during the 18th century. This conversion shaped its current character as a noble dwelling.

The castle holds Northern Europe's largest private painting collection, with portraits spanning several centuries on display. Visitors encounter these artworks arranged throughout elegant rooms alongside period furniture.

The castle is open from April through November and offers guided tours available in multiple languages. Seasonal events occur regularly throughout the visiting period to enhance your experience.
