Skuldelev ships

Five maritime vessels recovered from Peberrenden waterway reveal different ship types, including cargo carriers, warships, and fishing boats from the Viking Age period.

The vessels demonstrate advanced Viking shipbuilding techniques, featuring construction methods that combined oak, pine, and ash wood with iron rivets for strength.

The Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde displays the original ships and operates full-scale reconstructions that visitors can examine throughout the year.

The Skuldelev 2 vessel, constructed in Dublin around 1042, measures 30 meters and required up to 80 crew members to operate effectively at sea.
