Brede House

Brede House is a Neoclassical villa with original furnishings from the 18th century, documenting the domestic life of the upper classes during the 1790s. Its rooms retain their authentic arrangements, assembled based on inventory records from 1805.

Merchant Peter van Hemert commissioned architect Andreas Kirkerup to build this house in 1795. Financial difficulties forced him to auction it ten years later, passing it to new owners.

The rooms show how wealthy families lived and decorated their homes in that era. You can see how different spaces were used for specific activities and which objects held importance in daily life.

The house is easy to reach on foot from the town center and rooms are clearly marked for self-guided exploration. Allow extra time to visit the surrounding gardens, which hold additional historic structures and enclosures.

Beyond the main building, the property includes a functional Chinese-style garden pavilion and outbuildings designed for growing fruit and vegetables. These support structures offer insight into the rural economy of a wealthy estate.
