Lightvessel Gedser Rev, Museum ship in Port of Helsingør, Denmark.

Lightvessel Gedser Rev is a museum ship in Helsingør harbor that shows how lightships worked and what life was like on board. Inside, you can see the crew's quarters, workspaces, maritime equipment, and the instruments used for navigation.

The ship was built in 1895 and was Denmark's seventeenth lightvessel. It initially operated near Lappegrund in the challenging waters between Denmark and Sweden, where it guided countless ships to safety.

The vessel is named after the waters where it operated, connecting visitors to Danish maritime heritage. It represents how such ships were vital for guiding vessels through treacherous channels.

The ship is open during summer months and weekend visits are best for exploring with a guide. Wear comfortable shoes since walking around involves uneven decks and climbing steep ship stairs.

During the Cold War, the ship rescued more than 50 people attempting desperate sea escapes from East Germany, some using homemade underwater devices. These rescues made it a symbol of compassion during one of Europe's most divided periods.
