Horsens Statsfængsel

Horsens Statsfængsel is a former state prison with thick stone walls, iron bars, and several cell blocks arranged in a cross-shaped layout. The large compound also includes work areas and guard stations that visitors can explore today.

The prison operated as a correctional institution from 1853 until 2006, housing inmates serving extended sentences. During this time, it played an important role in Denmark's prison system with its strict routines and work programs.

The museum displays tell stories of inmates and their daily experiences within these walls. Visitors get to know the people who lived here and understand what prison life meant to them.

Visitors can explore the cells, work areas, and guard stations throughout the facility. Wear sturdy shoes since the buildings come from different periods and may have uneven floors.
