Farumgård

Farumgård is a manor house with three wings in Rococo style, situated on the banks of Farum Lake in Furesø Municipality. The building sits within a 6-hectare park whose Baroque design was restored between 1913 and 1932.

The estate dates to 1370 when it operated as a farmstead under the Bishop Seat in Roskilde, then became Crown property after the Reformation. The Baroque gardens were redesigned later and shaped the appearance we see today.

The building shows Danish aristocratic design through its balanced facades and formal gardens that reflect how the early 18th century understood elegance. Visitors can see how the ordered arrangement of paths and plantings displays the refined taste of that era.

The site is best explored on foot and the different areas of the estate are easy to distinguish from one another. Visitors should be prepared for uneven ground and slippery paths, especially during wet or rainy weather, as the property covers varied terrain.

From 1932 to 1960, German St. Ursula Sisters used the manor as a recovery home, marking an unexpected chapter in its long story. This period shows how the building adapted to new purposes and served different communities over time.
