Folkets park

Folkets Park stretches between Griffenfeldsgade and Stengade streets and features a mix of different tree species including oak, birch, ash, maple, and cherry trees. The park has grass areas, designated campfire zones, and areas where dogs can run freely.

The park came into being in 1971 when residents transformed an empty construction site by gathering trees, plants, stones, and bricks from nearby areas. This grassroots neighborhood effort turned an unused location into a living community space.

The space hosts numerous outdoor events throughout the year, including music performances, circus shows, and community gatherings that shape neighborhood social life. These activities reflect how residents have adopted the park as their gathering place.

The grounds are easy to reach on foot and offer different areas for various activities. It is best to visit during daylight hours when most areas are accessible and community activities tend to happen.

Neighborhood residents successfully protected this space from multiple development proposals, ensuring its survival as a community-managed green area. This makes it a rare example of neighborhood resistance that prevented commercial development.
