Rønne Lighthouse

Rønne Lighthouse is an octagonal cast iron structure with a white exterior and green lantern at the top. The tower stands about 18 meters tall and occupies a central position in the harbor area of Rønne.

An initial lighthouse was built in 1846, but the current structure dates to 1880 and was constructed by H. Wichmann & Co. This newer tower represented an upgrade to meet the needs of increasing maritime traffic around the island.

The lighthouse connects to Bornholm's fishing traditions, which have shaped the island's way of life for generations. You can see this maritime heritage reflected in the local harbor areas and how people still work around the waterfront.

The structure no longer functions as a navigation aid after its operations ended in 1989. You can view the exterior of the lighthouse, which underwent complete restoration and repainting in 2000, making it easy to spot among the harbor buildings.

The lantern originally emitted a green light during its working years, which was later changed to a red signal for maritime guidance. This shift reflects how navigation technology evolved to meet changing maritime standards.
