Assens Miniby, Miniature park in Assens, Denmark
Assens Miniby is a miniature park in the Danish town of Assens that recreates the town as it appeared around 1890 to 1900. Over 130 handcrafted buildings at a scale of 1:10 are arranged on the site, including houses, shops, a church, and narrow streets laid out to mirror the original town plan.
The park was founded in 1990 with the aim of capturing what historic Assens once looked like in miniature form. Local craftsmen and volunteers have gradually expanded it since then, and it now contains more than 130 buildings.
The models are built by hand by local volunteers who use old photographs and sketches to reconstruct buildings that no longer exist. Schools sometimes bring students here for lessons on local architecture and everyday life in earlier times.
The park is close to the center of Assens and easy to reach on foot. A visit does not take very long, so it pairs well with a trip to the nearby beach or other spots in town.
Every brick, roof tile, and chimney in the models is shaped by hand from clay, then dried and fired in a special oven. Doors and windows are cut from plastic sheets, and inner frames are made from materials that resist cold and moisture so the models hold up outdoors year round.
