Frederiksdal, Manor house near Nakskov, Denmark
Frederiksdal is a manor house near Nakskov on Lolland island, built between 1756 and 1758 in the neoclassical style. The property covers approximately 538 hectares and includes an ornately decorated main building plus extensive cherry orchards.
The property was first documented in 1305 under the name Grimsted and changed hands several times before the Knuth family renamed it Frederiksdal around 1752. This renaming marked the start of a new period under the Knuth family's ownership.
The Garden Room displays detailed stucco work created by Italian sculptor Carlo Enrico Brenno, showing the artistic connections between Denmark and Italy during the 18th century. These decorations reflect the tastes and international contacts of the family that lived here at that time.
The property produces homemade wine from traditional Stevnsbär cherries using modern techniques, which visitors may sometimes taste. The sprawling gardens and grounds invite walking and allow you to explore the landscape around the main building.
The estate combines traditional cherry growing with modern wine production methods, using a specific cherry variety that is rarely grown elsewhere. This blend of historical farming and contemporary techniques makes it a rare example of its kind.
