Planet trail Lemvig, Educational planet trail in Lemvig, Denmark.
The Planet Trail runs about 12 kilometers along the coast from Vesterbjerg to Gjellerodde, displaying bronze models of the sun and planets on stone pedestals. Each model is positioned according to a scale that represents the actual distances between celestial bodies in miniature.
The trail was built to show the solar system at a walkable scale, making the vast distances of space understandable to visitors on foot. The project combined educational goals with the natural coastal setting of Lemvig.
Schools in the region bring students here to learn about space through walking and observation rather than textbooks alone. The trail has become a place where families stop to discuss what they see in the sky above.
The path follows existing coastal routes and is suitable for walkers of different ages and fitness levels. Comfortable shoes are recommended since the full route covers quite a distance and coastal weather can change quickly.
The trail also displays models of Halley's comet and several asteroids alongside the main planets, extending the experience beyond just the solar system. These extra models remind visitors that space contains many more objects than the eight major planets.
