Gyllingnæs, Manor house at Horsens Fjord peninsula, Denmark.
Gyllingnæs is a two-story whitewashed manor house standing at the end of the Gyllingnæs peninsula overlooking Horsens Fjord. The building features a pitched roof and sits surrounded by green grounds that slope toward the water's edge.
The manor began in 1801 when English merchant John Smith purchased the land from Åkjær Estate. The oak trees growing on the peninsula were central to Smith's decision to acquire the property.
St. St. Blicher incorporated the tales of the Smith family into his novella Den Hule Eg, documenting the manor's early nineteenth century period.
This location is best reached on foot through a 9-kilometer coastal walk that starts from Lerdrup village and follows the peninsula shoreline. Comfortable hiking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended since the route runs along exposed coastal terrain.
The current building dates to 1865 and is owned by Troels Holck-Povlsen, founder of the international fashion company Bestseller. This ownership connects a rural Danish estate to the modern global business world.
