Kompagnistræde 32, Neoclassical building in Old Town, Copenhagen, Denmark
Kompagnistræde 32 is a three-story neoclassical structure featuring a symmetrical facade and traditional Danish architectural elements. The building includes a walk-out basement and maintains its original exterior design.
Built in 1799 by architect Andreas Hallander on two adjoining plots destroyed during the Copenhagen Fire of 1795, the structure received an additional story in the 1840s. This expansion gave the building its present three-story form.
The building served as headquarters for the Danish Union of Teachers from 1957 onward, converting a former brewery space into modern office facilities. This institutional role gave the location significance within the local professional community.
Located in central Copenhagen, the building operates under heritage protection regulations that have preserved its original exterior since 1968. The facade is easily visible and recognizable from street level.
This building occupies land created by merging two separate plots that were both destroyed in the Copenhagen Fire of 1795. The unified reconstruction from these ruins represents a recovery effort that shaped the district after the disaster.
