Agoudas Hakehilos Synagogue, Art Nouveau synagogue in Le Marais, Paris, France
The Agoudas Hakehilos Synagogue features elongated windows, continuous columns, and reinforced concrete construction across its narrow four-story facade on rue Pavée.
The synagogue, commissioned by Orthodox Jews from Russia and designed by Hector Guimard, opened its doors to worshippers in June 1914.
The synagogue maintains Ashkenazi traditions and serves as a central gathering place for Jewish religious ceremonies in the fourth arrondissement.
The interior space includes two levels of galleries on each side of the nave, accommodating more congregants within the limited building width.
The building represents the only religious structure ever created by Art Nouveau architect Hector Guimard, who also designed every interior element.
