Chabahar, Port city in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Iran.

Chabahar is a port city on the coast of Sistan and Baluchestan Province, stretching across flat coastal terrain with two major harbors equipped with modern facilities for international vessels. The city functions as a trading and logistics hub with wide streets and warehouse areas.

The city fell under Portuguese control in the 16th century, remaining so until 1621 when that period ended and it became a regional trading post. It later developed into the modern port facility that exists today.

The population consists mainly of Baloch people whose daily routines revolve around maritime work and traditional crafts that remain visible in the markets and streets. Their customs and way of life shape how the city functions and how people spend their time here.

Visitors should bring sun protection and plan a visit between November and March when temperatures are more comfortable for walking around. The harbor areas can be explored, though it's wise to check local guidelines about access to certain zones beforehand.

The name comes from Balochi words referring to four springs that once provided freshwater to the region and shaped its early settlement. These natural sources remain part of the local geography and history today.
