The Rape of Proserpina, Sculpture in Italy
The Rape of Proserpina is an incredible sculpture by Italian artist Bernini, currently located in the Galleria Borghese in Rome.
Made between 1621 and 1622, it depicts the moment when the god Pluto abducts Proserpina to be his queen in the underworld.
It’s an exemplary masterpiece of Baroque art, noted for its astonishing detail in capturing the emotional intensity of the scene.
Visitors can view this striking work in room two of the Galleria Borghese.
What is remarkable about this sculpture is Bernini's mastery in capturing the anguish of Proserpina.
