Abbazia di San Nazzaro e Celso

The abbey features a Romanesque bell tower measuring 34.9 meters tall, circular corner towers, and a church built in Lombard Gothic style with brick exterior.

Founded in 1040 by Riprand, bishop of Novara, the abbey was constructed near the Sesia River, likely on the site of a previous Lombard period monastery.

The cloister contains late Gothic frescoes from the 15th century depicting scenes from the life of Saint Benedict based on Gregory the Great's writings.

The fortified complex includes preserved medieval walls, moats, and defensive structures that visitors can explore during regular opening hours.

Two tiers of narrative frescoes line the lower floor of the cloister, showing detailed episodes of Saint Benedict's life through intricate medieval artistry.
