Minami-Senju

Minami-Senju contains numerous apartment blocks and wide roads situated across the Sumida River from Kita-Senju, forming a densely populated neighborhood.

The area served as Tokyo's northern gateway during the Edo period and contained the Kozukappara Execution Grounds where over 200,000 people were executed.

The Kubikiri Jizo statue at Enmeiji Temple, erected in 1741, stands 3.6 meters tall and represents a memorial for individuals executed at Kozukappara.

The district features three separate railway stations under one name, serving the JR Joban Line, Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, and Tsukuba Express.

Medical students conducted anatomical studies using bodies from the execution grounds during the 1700s, contributing to early Japanese medical knowledge.
