Shibamata, Traditional district in Katsushika, Japan

Shibamata extends along the Edogawa River with a main shopping street leading to the Taishakuten temple, displaying numerous local craft workshops and food vendors.

The Taishakuten temple contains exceptional unpainted wood carvings created by the same artisans who worked on the Toshogu shrine in Nikko during the Edo period.

The neighborhood gained national recognition through fifty episodes of the movie series Otoko wa Tsurai yo, produced between 1969 and 2019.

Visitors reach Shibamata via the Keisei Main Line to Keisei-Takasago Station, followed by a two-minute train ride to Shibamata Station.

The Yagiri no Watashi maintains the last operating traditional boat crossing service in Tokyo, connecting both sides of the Edogawa River.
