Yanaka, Traditional district in Taitō-ku, Japan
The narrow streets of Yanaka contain numerous small shops selling handmade crafts, antiques, and traditional Japanese snacks along Yanaka Ginza shopping street.
Yanaka district maintained its original architecture and layout after surviving both the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923 and World War II air raids.
The neighborhood features over sixty temples, including Tennoji Temple from 1274, which houses a bronze Buddha statue and traditional Japanese gardens.
Visitors can reach Yanaka through Nippori Station on the JR Yamanote line or Sendagi Station, with both stations offering direct access to main attractions.
The ten-hectare Yanaka Cemetery contains the graves of notable Japanese figures and features cherry trees that bloom spectacularly in spring.
