Vilkėnas Manor, Neoclassical manor house in Švėkšna, Lithuania

Vilkėnas Manor is a two-story house combining neoclassical architectural elements with decorative plasterwork throughout its rooms and a symmetrical facade. The main building sits within a surrounding park planted with many different tree and shrub species.

The estate was created in 1820 when Count Jerzy divided his original property among his four sons, establishing this location as a separate holding. The family continued managing the land through the following generations.

The manor reflects the mixed cultural world of Lithuanian nobility, where German and Polish traditions shaped daily life and family customs. You can sense this heritage in how the rooms are arranged and decorated.

The park covers a large area and contains many plant species best explored at a leisurely pace on foot. It is worth allocating time to visit both the main building and the surrounding grounds.

After nationalization in 1940, the house served as a children's home for many years before being returned to family ownership in the 1990s. This dramatic change reveals how the place transformed through the turbulent 20th century.
