Viničko Kale, Archaeological site on hilltop near Vinica, North Macedonia
The fortified settlement extends across 25,000 square meters at 400 meters elevation, offering strategic views over the Bregalnica River valley and surrounding region.
Discovered in 1954, the site contains remains from multiple periods, with significant architectural structures dating from the 4th to 5th centuries CE.
The unearthed terracotta icons from the 4th and 6th centuries represent early Christian art and religious practices in the ancient Macedonian region.
Visitors can reach the archaeological site through the town of Vinica, where local guides provide information about the ongoing excavations and discoveries.
The defensive walls, preserved up to 4 meters in height, incorporate terracotta religious icons within their construction materials.
