Турија, خزان مائي في مقدونيا الشمالية
Turija is a large artificial reservoir in North Macedonia that collects water from the Turija River and surrounding areas. The water body has a considerable surface area and depth, serving primarily to supply water to the nearby city of Strumica while also supporting irrigation and power generation.
The reservoir was constructed between 1968 and 1971, becoming operational in 1973 to meet water supply demands for industry and agriculture in the region. Since then, it has served as a critical infrastructure for water management and flood protection in the surrounding areas.
The reservoir serves as a gathering place where local families come to fish, rest, and spend time together in nature. These informal visits and fishing traditions form an important part of how people in surrounding villages connect with the water.
The reservoir is easily accessible with paths offering good views of the water and surrounding mountains. Visitors should be aware that fishing has specific regulations, and when spending extended time here, it is advisable to bring suitable clothing for the changing seasons.
Fishing at the reservoir is governed by detailed rules protecting different species, with minimum size requirements for carp and catfish along with seasonal protection periods. Some species like crucian carp and sunfish may be caught without restrictions, reflecting how conservation management varies by species.
