Bargala is an ancient fortified city in Karbinci, North Macedonia, with remains of towers, gates, and residential buildings. The ruins spread across the valley at the foot of Plačkovica Mountain.
The city's foundation began during Late Antiquity with construction of fortifications and city gates. It developed into an important center during this historical period.
The site reveals religious importance through several basilicas spread across the grounds. These buildings show how faith shaped daily life in this settlement.
The site sits northeast of Štip and is reachable from nearby cities in the region. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes as the terrain is uneven and paths connect the ruins throughout the grounds.
An underground bathhouse with a sophisticated heating system shows how advanced the town's engineering was. The system moved water beneath raised floors to warm different zones.
