Bøler Church, Church building in Bøler, Norway.
Bøler Church is a contemporary church building in Oslo featuring two brick steeples at opposite corners with copper cladding angled upward. The main hall occupies the first floor, the congregation hall sits at ground level, and a chapel extends partially underground following the natural terrain.
The church resulted from an international architecture competition won by Hansen-Bjorndal Architects in 2004. The building was completed and opened to the public in 2011.
The church takes its name from the nearby neighborhood and serves as a gathering place for the local community during important occasions. Artists have contributed their work to shape the character of the interior spaces.
The building takes advantage of the natural slope of the site, making the different levels easy to navigate. Large glass panels on the sides provide orientation points and offer views of the surroundings.
The building combines dark brick walls with light wooden ceilings, creating a striking visual contrast. This pairing gives the interior spaces a warm yet contemplative feeling.
