Varner Arena, Indoor ice rink in Asker, Norway
Varner Arena is an indoor ice rink in Asker, a town west of Oslo, used for league games and public skating sessions. The building has seating and standing areas around the ice surface, along with a food and drink area for visitors.
The arena was built in the early 2020s to give Asker a modern facility suited to top-level ice hockey. It replaced older venues in the area that could no longer meet the demands of professional play.
The arena is the home of Frisk Asker, the local ice hockey club that plays in the top Norwegian league. On match days the stands fill with vocal fans, and the energy in the building is easy to feel from the moment you walk in.
Parking is available under the building, and the site is well signposted from the main road. On match nights it is worth arriving a little early, as queues at the entrances tend to build up before the puck drops.
The arena takes its name from the Varner Group, one of Norway's largest fashion retailers, which came on board as a naming rights sponsor. The company's core business has nothing to do with sport, which often surprises first-time visitors who hear the name for the first time.
