Tegart fort, British colonial fortification network in Palestine.
The Tegart forts formed a chain of reinforced concrete structures with thick walls, steel shutters, and independent water supply systems across Palestine.
Between 1936 and 1939, Sir Charles Tegart designed 69 police fortresses to counter the Arab Revolt and prevent arms smuggling from Syria and Lebanon.
The construction contract went to Solel Boneh, connecting the British colonial administration with the Jewish labor movement in Palestine through these buildings.
Many of these fortifications continue their security functions today as police stations, administrative centers, and detention facilities throughout Israel and Palestinian territories.
The Ramallah Mukataa, originally a Tegart fort, now functions as the Palestinian Authority headquarters after extensive modifications to its structure.
