Wat Phra That Cho Hae, Buddhist temple in Cho Hae, Thailand

Wat Phra That Cho Hae is a Buddhist temple in Cho Hae, Thailand, centered around a tall golden stupa that rises above the surrounding grounds. The compound includes a main chapel with decorated interiors and several smaller buildings arranged around courtyards where visitors can walk freely.

The temple was built during the late 1800s and gradually became an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists across northern Thailand. Authorities later designated it as a protected historic site to preserve its religious and architectural heritage.

Pilgrims from across northern Thailand travel here to pay respects at the stupa, especially during Buddhist festivals when ceremonies take place. Devotees often walk clockwise around the golden tower while praying and leave offerings of flowers and incense at its base.

Shared vehicles run regularly from Phrae city to the temple throughout the day until late afternoon, making access straightforward for visitors. Modest clothing covering shoulders and knees is expected when entering the buildings, and shoes must be removed before stepping inside.

The main chapel ceiling displays intricate lotus-bud mosaics made from gilded wood that form complex geometric patterns above the prayer hall. The pillars inside show rococo-style decorations, which are less common in Thai temple architecture and reflect European artistic influence.
