Talat Thonburi, Public market in Thawi Watthana, Thailand.
Talat Thonburi is a market in the Thawi Watthana district of Bangkok, Thailand, divided into eight sections selling plants, antiques, pets, food, clothing, and ceramics. A public recreation park sits directly next to the market grounds, adding open outdoor space to the site.
The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration opened this market in 2000, initially running it only on weekends. Two years later, as visitor numbers grew, the market shifted to daily operations.
Talat Thonburi is widely known in Thailand for its orchid trading, and walking through that section you can see growers and collectors tending their plants with obvious care. Orchids hold a special place in Thai culture, used both as decoration and as meaningful gifts.
The market can be reached by BMTA bus route 91ก or by songthaew taxis leaving from Bang Khae Fresh Market. Morning hours tend to offer the widest choice and fewer people than later in the day.
The recreation park next to the market was not part of the original plan when it opened in 2000, but was added later as the site grew. Today it works as a natural resting point between the different shopping sections.
