Wat Suttharam, Buddhist temple in Bang Lamphu Lang, Thailand.
Wat Suttharam is a Buddhist temple in Bang Lamphu Lang, a neighborhood in central Bangkok, where several buildings are arranged around a central courtyard. The roofs rise with curved lines and colored tiles, while inside the halls numerous Buddha figures of different sizes stand.
The complex was founded several centuries ago and developed over time into an important religious center for the community. The status as a protected historic site was later granted to preserve the architectural and spiritual traditions.
The temple's name refers to the deep connection to Buddhist teachings that remain present in the daily life of worshippers. Visitors often see locals placing offerings before the gilded figures or lighting incense sticks.
The grounds are open from early morning until evening, and visitors should be mindful to cover shoulders and knees. The main halls are usually quiet, and one can easily walk through the complex on foot without expecting large crowds.
Inside one of the halls, old wall paintings depict episodes from the life of the Buddha and were executed with color pigments typical of the region. These depictions are still clearly visible today and offer insight into artistic practices of past times.
