Derby Racecourse Roman settlement, Roman archaeological site near Little Chester, Derby, England
Located 600 meters east of Derventio fort, this settlement contains remnants of Roman dwellings, roads, workshops, and a cemetery extending across the grounds.
Established around 90 AD following the construction of Little Chester fort, the settlement served as a military and civilian center until the mid-fourth century.
The settlement demonstrates how the Cornovii people integrated Roman practices through pottery production, burial customs, and architectural methods used in building construction.
Excavations conducted between 1968 and 1983 revealed multiple pottery kilns, five stone mausolea, and numerous artifacts now displayed at Derby Museum.
The site contains evidence of continuous pottery production from 90 AD through the mid-second century, marking it as a significant industrial center.
