New Slains Castle, Ruined castle at Cruden Bay, Scotland
The granite walls of New Slains Castle stand on a cliff overlooking the North Sea, forming a square structure with a hexagonal courtyard.
Construction of the castle began in 1594 after the destruction of Old Slains Castle, serving as the residence of the Earls of Erroll until 1916.
The structure gained recognition when Bram Stoker visited the area in 1895, potentially influencing the architectural elements described in his novel Dracula.
Visitors can reach the castle ruins through a coastal path from Cruden Bay, with parking available near the village center.
The castle features a rectangular donjon measuring 4.8 meters in length with 1.2-meter-thick walls in the southeast corner of the structure.
