St Michael's Mount, Tidal island with medieval castle in Cornwall, England

The 230-foot granite hill features a castle complex with multiple buildings connected by narrow pathways and gardens that face the sea.

The castle began as a Benedictine priory in the 12th century, later becoming a fortress during various conflicts between England and France.

The St Aubyn family has maintained residence in the castle since 1659, preserving its architecture while allowing public access to selected areas.

Visitors can reach the island by walking across a granite causeway during low tide or taking small boats when water levels are high.

The castle grounds contain a Victorian railway system that transports supplies from the harbor to the castle through underground tunnels.
