Knockhall Castle, Tower house in Newburgh, Scotland

The three-story stone castle features an L-shaped layout with a circular stairwell, large rectangular windows, and multiple gun-loops throughout the structure.

William Sinclair completed the construction of Knockhall Castle in 1565, marking the beginning of centuries of noble family residency in Aberdeenshire.

The castle remained under Clan Udny ownership until 1734, when a fire caused the family to relocate to their other residence at Udny Castle.

The stone structure stands without a roof, and visitors should note that the remaining architectural elements include the main stair, kitchen fireplace, and cellar.

Jamie Fleeman, recognized as the Laird of Udny's fool, rescued a heavy iron charter chest during the 1734 fire and received weekly meal portions as compensation.
