McCaig's Tower, Roman-inspired folly in Oban, Scotland

The granite structure features two tiers of 94 lancet arches and measures 200 meters in circumference at the summit of Battery Hill.

Banker John Stuart McCaig commissioned the tower in 1897 for £5,000, equivalent to £690,000 today, to provide employment for local stonemasons.

The structure stands as a Grade B Listed historic monument since 1971, with original architectural drawings from the mid-1890s preserved in records.

Visitors can reach the tower via Jacob's Ladder, a 144-step staircase from the town center, or by car with limited parking spaces.

The first wedding ceremony at McCaig's Tower occurred in 2003 between two teachers from Oban High School, as reported by local media.
