Burlington Arcade, Shopping arcade in London
Burlington Arcade is a covered shopping arcade in London that runs behind Bond Street from Piccadilly through to Burlington Gardens.
It was built by Lord George Cavendish, younger brother of the 5th Duke of Devonshire, and opened to the public on March 20, 1819.
The arcade has traditionally been a place for the sale of luxury goods and services.
Today, it houses up to 40 boutiques selling fashion, jewellery, and antiques.
It is one of the precursors of the mid-19th-century European shopping gallery and the modern shopping centre.
