St Martin's Church, Bladon, Parish church in Bladon, England
St Martin's Church is a house of worship with a tower in Bladon, part of Oxfordshire county. The construction shows a tower with spires, a rebuilt chancel room, and a nave with several windows from the late nineteenth century.
A medieval building from the eleventh century stood here until the early nineteenth century, when the fourth Duke of Marlborough funded the construction of a new church building. Later work in 1891 brought further changes and repairs to the interior spaces.
The name Martin refers to the saint who lived in the fourth century and shared his cloak with a beggar. Today visitors come here to see the burial places of well-known families and walk through the quiet churchyard.
Access is through a footpath from the village center, and visitors can enter the interior during opening hours. The churchyard sits directly next to the building and can be walked freely.
Records of baptisms, weddings, and burials from the sixteenth century are now kept at the Bodleian Library in Oxford. These documents give insight into the lives of people over more than four centuries.
